Glycine Airman 17 Review

Glycine Airman 17 Watch Review

The Glycine Airman 17 mens watch has a nice history starting in 1953 when Glycine started production of the first Airman model. The Airman has a big following with Glycine and is their best known watch. This world-timer shows up to 4 time zones simultaneously! Topring is positioned by a special spacer system at the 4 o’clock position. The Airman 17 has a special execution for the purists of 24-hours watches featuring an arrow-tipped hour hand on the 24-hours dial only. This watch is offered in two sizes 46mm (3865) or 38mm (3866), with dial choices of black, blue, and yellow. If you are going to get a watch like this and actually use the time zones then the 46mm is the only option, it is big, clean, and easy to read. It has a respectable depth rating of 200m, especially for not being a dive watch. The Airman 17 is powered by an automatic ETA A07.171, with a 46 hour power. The ETA A07.171 has been described as a Valjoux 7750 on steroids with a longer power reserve, larger movement, etc. The movement is viewable through the case back displaying the decorated "Côtes de Genève" plating and blued screws.

Pros - 4 time zones, easy strap changes, Côtes de Genève, nice movement.

Considerations - Some feel the price point on an ETA movement is high.

Sinn U1 1000m Watch Review

Sinn U1 1000m Dive Watch

The Sinn U1 mens watch is another example of a great “tool” watch, it is tough as nails! The watch weighs in at 175 grams, supporting the 44mm. The U1 is 14mm thick and made of submarine steel. Let’s get right to the best part of this watch, the bezel. Sinn uses it now recognized Tegiment process to the bezel, this gives it a hardness rating of 1500Vickers opposed to standard stainless steel that has an average of 220Vickers! Hence why this watch is tough as “nails” so to speak. As the name suggest it is water resistant to 1000m, to help achieve this depth the U1 has a double locking crown. This Sinn uses the tried and true ETA 2824, with hacking. We like that the U1 has a 22mm lug width, nothing worse than a larger watch on a 20mm strap. It comes standard on a very well made black rubber strap that has a deployment buckle and a nice diver extension. Nice big, clean, easy to read dial, with a date window at the 3 o’clock position.

Pros - Clean dial, nice standard movement, Tegiment bezel, 1000m.

Considerations - Since it is not sold at brick and mortar stores, you would be more than likely purchasing without ever seeing it in person first.

IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Review

IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Watch

The new line up in the Aquatimer family has some distinct changes and yet stays true to its roots. The Aquatimer Automatic 2000 mens watch is water resistant to 2000m as the name suggest. The biggest changes come from the now external bezel and a larger 44mm case. This is of course an automatic watch featuring IWC’s caliber 30110, with an estimated 42 hour power reserve. The Automatic 2000 will be launched with two dial variants: in black dial with yellow quarter segment on the bezel, and white dial with orange numerals as pictured. We like IWC’s move towards larger cases and bolder designs.

Pros - Rich history, work horse movement, in-house movement, new design.

Considerations - Currently will only be offered on a strap.
