Sinn 856 UTC Review

Sinn 856 UTC Watch Review

One of the great benefits to owning a Sinn watch is they are not main stream, nor found in any given mall across the country. Sinn is a German company building solid timepieces and the Sinn 856 UTC (same as a GMT function) falls right in line.
The 856 (ref. 856.010.S) is a classic pilot watch with a twist. Most would agree that any true pilot watch has a second time zone represented. This Sinn does, instead of the 24 hour markers following the around the outer edge of the dial, they are front and center in the middle. The 24 hour handed is distinguished by the yellow tipped hour hand. The watch and second time zone are powered by an ETA 2893-2, with an estimated 42 hour power reserve. The date window is subtly tucked away at the 4 o’clock position, keeping it form distracting from the flow of the dial. Like the U1, the 856 has a Tegimented case. This process hardens the steel to roughly 1500 Vickers, much harder than standard stainless steel.

Pros - Unique 24 hour design, crisp clean lines, Tegiment case.

Consideration - The 24 hour markers are positioned towards the middle of the dial, this can be difficult to read for some.

Tissot Seastar 1000 Review

Tissot Seastar 1000 Watch Review

Want a nice affordable Swiss dive watch? The Tissot Seastar 1000 will fit bill. The watch looks fantastic with the black face and black strap combination (ref. T19.1.593.41). The red accents on the dial, hands, and bezel give a nice visual “pop” to the watch. It has a flat matte black dial, that makes the indices stand out quite well. A polished case compliments the overall appearance of the watch. The black rubber strap is integrated to the case and has double locking clasp.
What makes this watch so great? First, it can be found under $500. Secondly, the Seastar is powered by an ETA 2824, with an estimated 40 hour power reserve. This Tissot also has sapphire crystal protecting the face and an exhibition case back. The Seastar is rated to 300m of water resistance. This all adds up to one heck of a dive watch at a fantastic value.

Bulova Marine Star Review

Bulova Marine Star Watch Review

Bulova is a Swiss made watch company that delivers watches in a very affordable price range. The Bulova Marine Star (ref. 96G93) is great example. Bulova’s Marine Star is an extremely versatile, sporty, casual watch. The silver dial has a fantastic symmetry about it, with elegant details. The dial is further complimented by a polished and brushed stainless steel case and bezel. The bracelet has more traditional styled links, with push button deployment clasp. The hands and date window at 6 o’clock are powered by a Swiss quartz movement. Helping to keep the cost down, the Marine Star has hardened mineral crystal protecting the face, opposed to sapphire crystal.

Baume et Mercier Capeland S Review

Baume et Mercier Capeland Watch Review

The Capeland S Automatic #8124 is a nice sporty/dress watch. The high polished bezel, with brushed 1-15 minute counter is gorgeous. This Capeland has a great combination of high polish and brushed finishes throughout the watch. The black face is deep black in color with a grey subdial seconds. In the Capeland series, Baume et Mercier uses sword hour and minute hands, a personal favorite for Watches And Reviews.
There is a date window at the 3 o’clock position, visible through the sapphire crystal. The bracelet has brushed center links, accented nicely with polished links. The screw down case back and crown help ensure the water resistance of 200m. The Capeland 8124 is powered by an automatic ETA 2895 movement, with an estimated 42 hour power reserve.

Citizen Nighthawk Eco-Drive Review

Citizen Nighthawk Eco-Drive Watch Review
The Nighthawk Stainless Steel watch is another great Eco-Driven watch by Citizen. This is a more traditional pilot watch, there is a slide rule bezel and a GMT function. The inner rotating slide rule is operated by the crown located at the 8 o’clock position, giving the watch a nice balance. There is a nicely sized date window at 3 o’clock and large luminescent hands/markers that compliment the dial. The Nighthawk has an astounding 180 power reserve and is rated to 200m of water resistance. This a lot of watch at a great price point.
