Basel 2013 Concord C1 Chronograph Review

Basel 2013 Concord C1 Chronograph
Pre-Baselworld 2013 Concord C1 Chronograph
W&R has enjoyed the evolution of the C1 over the years, though, never written about them here. This is new improved C1, from a standpoint of wearability (smaller case) and legibility. For a chronograph, the textured dial is relatively uncluttered, with masculine hour and minute hands. No doubt this watch C1 Chronograph from Concord will set you back pretty penny. The good news is you are never likely to see it on another persons wrist besides your own.
Press Release:
Concord unveils its legendary chronograph from a completely new angle. The C1 Chronograph shows how an emblematic design has brilliantly evolved to remain perfectly aligned with the times. Sharing the same DNA and avant-garde personality as its slightly larger older sibling, this new timepiece has no trouble making its mark with a marginally smaller crown, improved readability, and a wrist-hugging, ergonomic case. Like the reference model, the new C1 Chronograph stands out for a sophisticated design with an artful blend of high-tech materials, including eight ceramic inserts around the distinctive bezel. A brilliant demonstration of Concord's talent for beautiful timepieces that cut to the essence.

Pros - smaller, easy to read dial, ceramic inlays
Consideration - integrated strap highly limits most change out options

Technomarine Steel Evolution Carbon Review

Technomarine Steel Evolution Carbon
TechnoMarine Steel Evolution Carbon - Baselworld 2013
TechnoMarine is unveiling a new watch for Basel 2013 this year. The watch is called Steel Evolution Carbon and looks pretty darn nice. TechnoMarine is a fun brand, probably best illustrated on their website under the section called "I'm Special". A refreshing edginess, in the sometimes "stuffy" watch world.
TechnoMarine used a stainless steel case, covered over with carbon fiber. The carbon fiber theme follows throughout the watch. This black carbon fiber can be found on the dial and woven carbon fiber inserted onto TechnoMarine's well know silicone rubber strap. Keeping with the black theme, the unidirectional bezel is done in a PVD finish. All this combined creates a masculine, modern, handsome looking watch. The dial has two subdials, that are accented in orange. Giving the Steel Evolution Carbon a little "pop" to set the watch off visually. Obviously, the watch has a chronograph function, as well as a date window at 4 o'clock. Powering this 45mm watch is a Rhonda 5040D quartz movement. This will definitely help keep the cost down vs. an automatic movement. Though, the watch features a chronograph complication, do not fear, this bad boy is rated to 200m of water resistance. AR coated sapphire crystal is used to protect the dial. No word on the price just yet, will circle back once available.

Pros - stealthy, carbon fiber materials, good dial layout
Consideration - lacking in the lume department

Specifications & Dimensions:
Case: Stainless Steel & Carbon Fiber
Case Diameter: 45mm
Strap: Black Silicone & Woven Carbon Fiber
Dial: Carbon Fiber Overlay
Crystal: AR Coated Sapphire
Bezel: Unidirectional
Movement: Quartz Rhonda 5040D

Basel 2013 ORIS Calobra Limited Edition
Pre-Basel 2013 ORIS Calobra Limited Edition
Oris has been releasing some really nice new designs the last few years. W&R was never a huge fan of some of their designs going back a few years. Fast forward to Baselworld 2013, the Colobra is another good looker from Oris. Keeping with what seems to be every watch brands theme for 2013, Calobra has a black dial, with plenty of red accents. This color combination is running rampant this year, but no denying it looks killer. Oris is using a modified Sellita SW500 automatic movement, which is very similar to the very popular Valjoux 7750 automatic movment. The caseback is has been skeletonized, using sapphire crystal for a nice viewing of the movement. This is a limited edition offering from Oris, with 1,000 pieces being made in total.
