The Mido Baroncelli (ref. M8600.4.18.8) is not only a classic dress watch, it is also one of the best values dollar for dollar. It has a clean uncluttered face, with simple non-intrusive applied hour markers. The hour and minute hand are the same shape as the hour markers, adding a true feel of symmetry. The date window is subtly tucked away at the 4:30 position, adding to the sense of openness. The Mido Baroncelli is powered by an automatic Swiss movement ETA 2824-2, with a 42 hour power reserve. It has a transparent case back to view the 25 jewel movement in motion. The watch comes on a leather strap, with a folding clasp. The Mido Baroncelli can be found at an extremely very good price. I can not think of better dress watch dollar for dollar. It is a winner, that will surely not disappoint!

Pros - Classic dress watch, nice indices, amazing value

Consideration - The 38mm case is on the small side

The Mido All Dial (ref. M8340.4.B1.1) is just that, a big open dial as the name suggest. The watch does not have a bezel, making it quite literally almost 42mm of “all dial”. Mido is becoming more recognized, not only for design, but for their unbelievable value in a world largely of over priced time pieces. I will touch back on this in a moment. This is my favorite All Dial, the depth and contrast of dial is beautiful. The bracelet is nicely integrated into the case, though this limits any strap options.

Keep in mind this watch can be found under 1K and has the following features: sapphire crystal, display back, chronometer (COSC), day/date display, 100m WR, ETA 2836-2 automatic movement, 25 jewels, decorated rotor, and blued screws. I struggle to think of any watch that comes close to all the features at this price point or even double this price point. The All Dial deserves a good look if you are in the market for a new watch.

Pros - Chronometer, day/date, aesthetics, value

Consideration - Changing to a strap is not an option

What is this? A quality Swiss diving watch under 1K? That’s right! Mido does it again with the Ocean Star Captain IV. This Ocean Star has a day/date complication with one of Mido’s go to movement an ETA 2836-2, viewable through the transparent caseback. This version is shown in blue, it is also offered in black. The dial has a blue wave pattern and the blue is continued into bezel. There is a red seconds hand adding a good visual contrast to the watch. The minute and hour hands have a unique style, helping to separate the watch a bit from masses.

The Ocean Star Captain IV is not over designed, a refreshing change compared to many other brands. It is a relatively straight forward dive watch, with a screw down crown, and a depth rating of 200m. Mido continues to put out affordable quality Swiss time pieces in a watch world where seemingly the prices keep climbing. A quick search of internet forums continually shows owners singing praises of Mido. From value to the overall quality of the timepieces.

Pros - Versatile daily watch, sporty, value

Consideration - Relatively common looking in overall appearance.
